A workaround: the blue object contains 2 blue fills, and this is not handled correctly.
Remove one of the fills in the Appearance panel, and then merge should work.
I will fix this bug for the next build

Thank you! This has been fixed in build 1.3.023 and makes a big difference, I also noticed there is almost no image reference with low opacity shake at all now, I don't know if that was an inadvertent fix, but I'm glad its gone. Thank you for your hard work!

Both layer transforms are already flattened, but this does not mean the object is converted to curves.
When the child layer is selected, the parent layer transform will transform the bounding box.
All these transforms can be seen in the Shape Effects panel.
So in this case, only the Convert to Curves helps

It finally happened again. I had added a red parametric shape behind the black vector and as I was doing that and subsequent moving of the pieces around, the canvas would flash white
It did not happen all the time and even when i tried to recreate it in the video a second round of times, it did not do the same
