<![CDATA[Repeater : what do I do wrong ?]]>I'm testing the repeater feature but I don't get it. I've read some forum topics and the doc but the issue I encounter are not there.
First, I define an object as symbol, easy:

Then, I pick this symbol from the repaeter panel, easy:

Then, I select the object used for repeating and I press the 'plus' sign, easy:

and I get this:

it's not what I want, so I change the gormetry, fine:

but I want smaller objects at the periphery, therefore I do change the style & I get... black dots:

Ok, I press on "edit" & don't see my symbol. :

I add my symbol & delete the black one (many steps already)0_1676281645145_Result5.JPG Ok but not yet what I want.

every time I change the style, I get black dots and I have again to repeat all the steps but I never succeed to get what I want.

However, when the symbol is created via the Symbol panel, the changes are not repeated !!
It was impossible for me to be wrong every time.

Edit: I did not test through the 'Layers' panel. see below

After reinstalling VS, I had created a new file and maybe that's why the repeater function worked. I can't test it anymore but it may have nothing to do with the fact that I uninstalled and reinstalled VS. If it is the file that is the problem, it is also annoying.

The steps to create a repeat of a symbol is effective with a new document but impossible with an old one that I used to test various VS functions (the one I sent you a week ago).

Still, there is a bug somewhere, as previous configurations should not cause this type of issues.
Upgrading should be working.

It's true that I always upgrade and never uninstall and reinstall VS. This is now done and I will be able to test the repeater feature ☺

Edit: no, I wrote too fast. It worked once and I wanted to reproduce this on the same artboard and it doesn't work anymore...

Fresh instal on w10 and... the same than w11. I now can change the symbol & the changes are well repeated but no drag&drop I'm afraid.

This combination does not reset the VS UI in w10. I still have the same UI than before.

Not much is visible from the crash reports (such are Windows crash reports).

One other thing to try is to reset VectorStyler, byt holding control+shift+alt at VS starting.

I understand that this is annoying. But on the other hand, it narrows the range of the error source somewhat.

Not soon. There is one major issue I'd like to work out first (not mandatory), so it will not be next week.

The drag&drop is not yet functional but now I can change the small object and the changes are repeated in the 'repeater' large object. It is already something nice ☺ I might have to delete the x & y.xml (forgot which ones) to start freshly because I've noticed that I kept my UI.

  • draw the objects (grouped) that will be a symbol.
  • select Object Options set a name, and enable the Symbol role
  • this will make the object on the canvas behave as a symbol also (no separate symbol copy is created).
  • draw another object to be the basis of the repeater (area to be filled with the symbol), keep this selected.
  • open the Symbols panel.
  • drag & drop the symbol from the Symbols panel into the Repeater panel.
  • create the new repeater on the selected object ( [+] icon). This will use the symbol to fill the object.
  • now if you enter into the symbol, and make changes, these should be visible in the repeater also.
