We can select one locked object to unlock it selectively in Illustrator, instead of unlocking all locked objects. I know we can select one locked object through Layers panel, but it would be easier to do it from the viewport

Yes, in the menu: Select -> Options -> Allow Locked Objects

@VectorStyler What I think Gotanidea means is being able to select any locked object
by clicking its stroke right-click and choose 'Unlock' from the context menu.
Or right-click its stroke directly for that.

I think only this is missing.

choose 'Unlock' from the context menu

Enabling the "Allow Locked Objects" will allow the selection of locked objects with clicking, and then it can be unlocked from the Object menu.
(or customize the context menu and add the unlock command).

@VectorStyler I'm wondering if this 'Allow Locked Objects' approach is the best.

Maybe just allow selecting locked objects by default (without this special setting), with the limitation
that selecting can be done only by right-clicking the contour of the locked object.

Not sure about this. The problem is that it would require a "special case" mode when right clicking on outlines of locked objects. Could break things.

@VectorStyler It's how it's done in Corel, IIRC. Never had a problem or mixup with that.

Thank you, I didn't know about that. It's exactly what I need
