Try to get an understanding on VS presets vs styles
Somewhere in post https://www.vectorstyler.com/forum/topic/2074/pattern-brush-questions/2 (in a fairly clear summary by the way) is stated: "styles can only be stored in the document (but they can be imported / exported)."
If exported, does this become a preset? -

Both possible:
It is still a style (when exported into a separate file) but can only be used if imported to another document.
In the "Styles -> Document Styles" -> Options button there is Export to Presets to export styles to presets.
