Pattern - some issues (or not)?

I wanted to test a shape in a pattern and I followed the documentation. I defined an object as a Pattern preset.
The 1st problem is that the preview window is particularly dark.

A second problem is that I don't have the whole object (truncated part). I've changed the size, spacing, etc. but nothing works.

I will try to replicate this.
