I want to divide shape (B) with path (A). How do I do this in VS without closing (A)s ends?

Select both shape and line, use the Shape Builder tool and click left or right side (becomes blue on when fly over) to separate it.

@Devil-Dinosaur Nice tip! Also, using the divide boolean will work as well
