The Shape Builder normally uses the color of the last selected object.

However, I would like the Shape Builder and its results to normally have a
different color to better distinguish them from the original.

So I thought it would be helpful to be able to assign a user defined color to
the Shape Builder. I thought of the Shape Builder's options panel may be a
      place for this.

I know the Shape Builder allows you to select a color from the palette, but I
think a user defined color works better. I often only need one color outside
of my palette to distinguish the Shape Builder from it and this can be a
color that has been set once.

@Subpath After extracting the shape with the Shape Builder, you can select a color from the color panel to change the shape color.

Yes, I know that, as I already mentioned in my previous post.

But I'm talking about a setting where I specify a color once, and
this color will then be used whenever I use the Shape Builder.

@Subpath I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your idea. The issue I see is for those who don't have a consistent color palette each time

Would this color change, when a new color is selected (panel or palette) and the Shape Builder tool is active?

I would say no. Once the color is defined in the Shape Builder settings, it should
persist until the setting is removed.

Without a color defined in the Shape Builder settings, the Shape Builder could use
the color of the last shape or a color selected from the color palette as usual.

Since I'm talking about a setting, I don't really see a problem. If someone isn't
using the setting, the Shape Builder would behave as usual.

The idea behind my suggestion is that one can immediately recognize shapes that
are already used with the Shape Builder.

As it is by now, I always have to select a color that is different from the existing
ones. With my suggestion, you could define a color once in the settings that you
know you'll only use for the Shape Builder, and thus would allow to generally
                  recognize the edited shapes immediately.

@Subpath I understand what you are suggesting. It would make sense to me if the setting is where you were suggesting it be - in the shape builder panel and not in the overall setting since it seems pretty busy there

I agree, the Shape Builder panel would be the
most logical place for me too for such a setting
