Make Contour and drawings that was lost

I have several times experienced drawings that went totally missing and couldn’t be recovered when repeatedly entering cmd-z. It happens when I have an active shape, like in the attached file, and inadvertently hit opt-cmd-d (Make Contour) and want to return back and recover the original shape.
Of course I can switch off the short key, but is there a way to recover my drawings next time it should happen?
