Select object on canvas from layers - keyboard

When Select Highlighted and Highlight Selected are not selected in the layers panel options:

When an object in the layers panel is highlighted I can navigate up and down in the list of layers using the UP and DOWN arrow keys, expand or collapse groups with LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys.

But how to select the objects on the canvas using the keyboard when they are highlighted? That is what I would like to be able to do with the keyboard if the mouse pointer is far away from the panel.

Pssst: the spacebar should be reserved globally reserved for holding and panning even with the layers panel active, as discussed in another thread.

@Ingolf Should Tab select the next object above and Option-Tab the next one below? Or maybe vice versa?

I just need control + enter or something to select the object on the canvas that is currently highlighted. I wonder if any such shortcut exists.

Not a big deal for me though - when some of the bugs that are currently being fixes are history, I will have Select Highlighted and Highlight Selected enabled permanently at all times. I am not a fan of the Illustrator way of working with layers.

@Ingolf @b77 I add this to the backlog. Could be a configurable shortcut.

@Ingolf Currently on Windows platform I use a combination of the Control + Left / Right bracket to select objects on the canvas. I don't know the result if you were to try the equivalent key combination on the Mac.

I also use the left / right brackets to increase or decrease the stroke width.

@William-Kansepa This would be different. Basically if something in the Layers panel is selected, the a shortcut would select the same on the canvas also. And, of course, it would not affect the existing selection methods.

Brackets are unpractical on a non-us/uk keyboard and the shortcut for them doesn't have any effect anyway, but thanks for the tip.
