What I am trying to do is to select an object made of many curves..
Cut (either by marquee select, or by layer select)
      Paste inside (another layer)

I am having problems... once cut quite often paste isn't visible and Paste Inside is NEVER visible (grayed out)

What am I doing wrong does anyone know ?

      Thanks

      Windows 11 Home 21H2

@ambros I tried this both on Mac and Windows (10) and it is working.
I suspect that it could be a Windows 11 compatibility issue with the clipboard.

Another way to place an object inside an other one is to drag and drop the first object over the other in the layers panel:

@ambros It is also possible to do this in VS: https://recordit.co/44ZSvhKs01
double click on any object, and start drawing inside.

Thanks for such a quick reply . most helpful. Just looking at these videos now.

There is some very strange things happening with the new clipboard in Windows 11 it's true.. 'Snip and Paste' or whatever they call the 'print screen' programme completely failed a couple of days ago.. and it was only some googling and a youtube video which pointed me towards a solution by adjusting the date back and then forward again to resolve.. The boiler plate 'windows / microsoft' response to the issue was 'wipe your computer and do a fresh install of windows' which given the day and a half it typically takes to get everything installed and working properly I wasn't about to obey mindlessly

I didn't realise how flakey Windows 11 was to be honest.. I mistakenly thought it was just a couple of gui tweaks - but otherwise just a continuation of Windows 10. If I'd known I would have held off upgrading (I should have know better to be honest - more fool me)

@vectoradmin Just been playing around a bit with this again.
This first approach definitely doesn't work in Windows 11. I'll send you a screen recording privately.
Basically dragging one layer onto another (if the layer is full of objects) doesn't work

This approach works perfectly however. Thank you 🙂

@ambros In a vector graphics app, objects reside on layers.

In this case you need to drag an object over another, not a layer over another. To do this, expand the layer if necessary by clicking its triangle button, then look for the selected object (it has a "filled" circle on the right side) and drag it over the other object to place it inside.

@b77 Thank you. that does make sense.
Unfortunately not easy due to the number of objects .. I was having to scroll and select without being able to see the top of the list.
The second approach worked better. I had though that by having the options 'select highlighted' and 'highlight selected' in the 'panels options' selected that the layer 'was' the objects that resided within it..
I am used to using other programmes where the hierarchal structure means that if the parent is selected the children are also selected.

@ambros I agree, double-clicking the object to draw inside it is faster. 👍
