A node selection issue that slows node editing

  • I frequently bump into this click-and-drag (box select) issue where
after I select a single object in order to edit only its nodes, the first
click of click-and-drag can still select and bend the segment of an
    unselected shape by mistake:

As you can see, I'm bending the segment of the other shape if I'm
not careful to start the click-and-drag exactly in the empty space
    between them.

Can somehow any interaction with an unselected shape be disabled
when clicking-and-dragging once a shape has been selected and
    you're in node editing mode?

Is there some drawback to this more restricted approach?

  • @b77

something like this also happens to me from time to time

and when you drag from the inside ?
or use the lasso selection in these cases?
    came to my mind.

the pointer seems to me here in certain areas
a bit too sensitive, maybe it could help if we
could regulate the sensitive range size ?

I would also like to know this.

I am experiencing this problem when using lasso tool. I have already learned that the first click has to be away from the objects, otherwise I make an accidental edit. I definitely join the request to isolate selection. It can be as an option.

  • @Subpath I agree that there is also the opposite direction alternative for box select (from
lower right to upper left in this case) but it's not the default way to box select โ€” you need to
pause for a second, "inspect the area" then decide to click-and-drag like that. All this adds
    up and it slows you.

@encart Thanks, you're right, it also happens with the Lasso tool. ๐Ÿ‘

Just to make sure there's no misunderstanding:

It's good that the app lets you select nodes from all shapes when nothing is selected,
    so I wouldn't change that. That's fast.

It's just that once a shape is selected, it's not in complete isolation mode for node
selection โ€” while nodes from the unselected shapes are not included when you
click-and-drag over them (which is great), a misplaced click on a segment of
another shape will interact with it and bend it.

@b77 Added this to the backlog. Not sure yet of what is the solution here.
The problem is that click+drag should be able to move nodes / segments.

OK, but by 'click-and-drag' i meant 'box select'.
That should not select and bend any segment of any other shape than the selected one.

    If it's doableโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ™‚
