I was trying to understand the purpose of the "reselect" option. I was testing it out with some simple shapes and it seemed to not reselect the former selected shape. Other times it was greyed out. Sometimes the deselect was not greyed out in the menu when nothing in the document was selected.

Here is a video of my testing it out

@Boldline Works after the Select By Attribute or Select Similar options, to reselect those.

Should it work with regular selections also?

ok interesting - I would think yes that it should re-select whatever was last selected, but I'm open to other ideas if you had a reason you wanted it to only be for

I tested reselect after doing a select-similar and it did not seem to work there either - not sure if it was me or if it's a bug?

@VectorStyler In the 3D apps I know reselect is included in Undo โ€” undoing
            reselects objects/vertices/edges/faces by default.

I don't think the same is needed in a 2D app, but Reselect could indeed work
for regular selection, reselecting both objects and Bรฉzier nodes and handles.

@VectorStyler. @Boldline Actually I think "Named Selections" and "Marking/Flagging" objects for selection goes a long way in supporting selection of objects. (Still dizzy from discovering goodies, coming out of the bushes from medieval FreeHand..๐Ÿ˜ )

On the other hand it would be nice to be able pick up an extensive, complex selection that is dropped accidentally.

Like if you accidentally close a web browser window with lots of open tabs, and you can issue an "Open Last Window Closed"..

                @larsherold Select menu > Markers > Save Selectionโ€ฆ does that. ๐Ÿ™‚

@b77 Yes, saving to Named Selection is great! Know the feature from Rhino 3D...

But imagine meticulously selecting a large number of object - Boxing in, Shift Clicking and/or Lassoing - and then at the end you accidentally Single Click an empty area on the artboard and drop the selection. Could be handy to "Select Last Dropped Selection"..โ˜บ

@larsherold I agree, and that's what I was suggesting in my first post in this thread โ€” for Reselect to include that as well.

@larsherold Perhaps as discussed, extending the ability to recall last selection could be part of the existing "reselect" option. @VectorStyler had not included it there as of yet, but it seemed like the logical place and tool to use for that task already. This way we don't have to add more options that take up real estate and can already be combined with an existing option
Did you have a reason it needed to be a new option entirely instead of tacking it on?

@Boldline Agree, no need to make it an entirely new option.
It would in essence be a Reselection of the last Deselected / Dropped regular selection set. Regardless of how the Selection set was established. So Reselect would be active from a "No Selection" status.
It would act like "Undoing" a Deselection, as @b77 described..
