One of the harder things to create and get to look accurate are cylinders. I was using the 3-point-rectangle tool and wondered if the same ability could be added to the existing elipse tool, or a new tool added specifically for cylinder options.
With the existing 3-point-rectangle tool, I can set the angle and then the width before extending the rectangle. Having this same functionality to create cylinders would save a lot of time.

I know there have been a couple related feature requests that may cover this, such as the 3D extrude tool and another where i referenced an astute graphics option to pull out a 3D look...
but a cylinder option like the 3-point-rectangle tool would be a simple easy to use option as well

Your video shows one great aspect of adding three-point elipse tool, but I'm wanting to take it a little further, adding the ability to extend out the elipse into a cylinder the way you can currently extend out the height of a rectangle with the existing three-point rectangle tool This would be a huge enhancement and very useful tool option as well - whether it be added to the existing elipse tool, or we also add a new three-point elipse tool and include this feature and/or add a dedicated cylinder tool

Adding the ability to draw tangents and perpendiculars between any two curves as this post from last year demonstrates would also be helpful for creating perfect cylinders from two existing ellipses

I believe this is on the roadmap in the future

Yes it is, and will be in 1.2

Awesome! that will be great. Just for clarification, are you referring just to the ability to draw tangents and perpendiculars between any two curves? would you consider adding the 3-point elipse and also the extend option currently in the 3-point rectangle tool as well?

Not trying to be overly redundant I promise! A client sent me this barbell today and it was an exact case scenario where I'd use the elipse with extendable ability to do the sections in the middle that I circled in blue

@Boldline Looks like the shape builder might help with this.

I wasn't aware this had been asked for, this is a definite +1 for me (a 3D extrude tool - with optional camera angles pretty please 🙂 ), I pull stuff from VS into Fusion 360 or Sketchup regularly to do exactly that - I don't need a real 3D model version, just the look of it.
