I've just noticed that annoyingly, when dragging the top left rulers corner to the top left of the artboard, that it doesn't set the 0,0 position to the top left of the artboard as per AI.
Patently, I haven't read the manual ☺ Can't think how I missed this before ?
There must be a magyk spelle for setting the zero origin, can anyone help ?

      TIA

@Igull Enable 'Snap to Artboards' then Option-drag the canvas origin to the other corner.

If you need top-down coordinates, you can enable it in Document Setup > General.

          Thanks for the explanation.

Wow, I can't believe how overly complicated that is for such a simple manoeuvre ??????

I don't understand why the option key is needed in the first place - and then having to set top down co-ords on a per file basis too ?
If you select a zero point at the top left corner of the artboard, then patently anything on the board is negative in Y - similarly, the bottom left will give positive co-ords on the artboard, so why do we have a checkbox offering top down co-ords ? These are just basic cartesian co-ordinates surely ?

On all other apps that I have, that ruler co-ordinate reference square moves the co-ord zero to wherever you set it, it doesn't provide a pair of 90 deg guides - that should be the option and not the other way around surely ? /rant 🙂

I think this is something that could easily be simplified.

@Igull Indeed this is a bit "non-standard", but it could be that placing guidelines is
something needed more often than moving the artboard origin?

In any case, once you save a document with the origin in the upper left corner and
with top-down coords enabled, any new document should have these same settings
by default until you change them.

Yes, we all require guidelines, but we just drag them from the relevant X or Y ruler surely - that's been the way since Pontius was a pilate 🙂 - not from the reference point, where you get two at right angles rather than just the one that you required ??

And if you wish to quickly change the co-ordinate system mid-stream ? It's just very untidy and not up to the usual high quality VS scratch really.

I do realise that many users are simply (???) generators of wonderful artworks and really don't require the accuracy that I need/want, but that's not a reason to let our standards slip LOL 🙂
