I'm playing around with Affinity Designer 2.1 more these days just to try things out and learn. In using the pencil tool, I noticed the option to "auto-close" your pencil path (or fill).
I tested it out and found it a handy option to be able to click on in the contextual menu bar for the times it would come in handy. I would love to see this option added to the contextual menu for the pencil tool in VS

I did check prior to posting this to see if it was already in VS but did not find it. If it's already built in, if someone could let me know where. thanks!

@Boldline This would control the closing when moving close to the starting node?

I think your question relates to a whole different aspect. This would actually allow you to close an open shape in progress without having to go anywhere near the starting node.

If you look at the video I attached here, wherever I let up on the cursor, that last location would auto-connect with wherever the first node was, closing the path.
I would set this to default, but it would be a handy thing to adjust as needed from the contextual menu of the pencil tool

I want to clarify that I meant to say I would NOT set it as the default. But instead let it be an easy check to make on the contextual menu
