I'm playing with the Brush and discovering that I'm not able to constrain to straight lines.

      Maybe I'm missing something.

What I would like to suggest is,

      1. an ability to convert from pen or Bezier to Brush

      2. An extra toolset that uses comparable shapes (star, ellipse etc), but for brushes, or

      3. An ability to convert such shapes to Brush format.

It seems that the Brush format is constricted to working only in it's confined format which makes attempting to either edit a brush to a shape such as a star, tedious. Being able to either pick from a set of shapes intended to work as / with brushes or having the ability to convert from pen / bezier to Brush would be an exceptional improvement to modeling in the Brush format in that regard.

      Thanks.

      An example:

@fewerjunk Applying a brush to any shape (draw with the Pencil, or any other tool) should be simple from the "Brushes" panel. Set the Width and select a brush type from the drop down list (while the object is selected).
