automatically add anchor points unevenly/evenly to this line and add effects / distortions to this new anchor points

Question: is there a way to add anchor points unevenly / randomly in Illustrator? Other than manual insertion.

@VectorStyler Yes. There was an option for that. I can not check if and how it works today, but 6 y ago as I cancelled Adobe it was available. Check here.

Just to describe, what we are working on and need a handy solution without a "cool" workaround: We are drawing systematic scales with evenly distributed anchor points which we then manipulate to make seismographic peak points. F.e. we need 51 anchor points between the 2 outer points. Or we are drawing a curved line with 43 additional points in between to again apply some distortions. This is quite complicated to add those to shapes like that.

Using illustrator cs6 on the mac, there is the option to add nodes evenly under object>path>add anchor points

I'm still looking for random placement options

This can be done now, with a few key presses.

I add the other one to the backlog of features.

@VectorStyler Thanks. The uneven feature is not as important as the first one. Can you tell me, please, how to do it now "with a few key presses"? 😉 On a straight line, I can work with manual adding the dots and then distribute them with the menu. But what about a curved line?

I know we could press the + button to subdivide
                      a path with nodes.

                      1
But what about an option where we could specify/set a value and then a path
would be subdivided with this value of nodes ?
                      Just an idea.

                      2
In Transform i could give lets say 5 Objects a different position
if i set "Transform Each" and choose random.
I though it would be nice if this would also work with
                      selected Nodes.
                      Also just an Idea.

@VectorStyler Meaning this as a compliment, as VS can do everything from my experience: I am surprised we cannot do that until now ;). Also, I am thankful, you add this to the backlog 👍🏻
