Can a function be added to this type of tool, click on the control point to highlight it, and then fine-tune the movement through the keyboard.

@monsterfox Maybe in later versions (requires a bit of work), the problem is that there is no "persistent" selection of these nodes, they are selected only while the mouse is pressed.
But you can adjust the distortion precisely using the Shape Effects panel.
