Why is VectorStyler struggling with certain 3rd party Illustrator brushes so badly? For instance, I downloaded Memento Shader Brushes for Illustrator by pixelbuddha_graphic from Envato Elements and even opening up the main brushes file takes VS to an absolute crawl on my M1 Pro Macbook, which has thus far been able to handle just about anything I've thrown at it without any major problems. But having this brush collection open inside VectorStyler I don't even have to do anything with the brushes themselves, even panning the canvas, opening up menus or drawing a simple rectangle without using any of the loaded brushes is extremely slow and unresponsive. Attempting to select a brush from the Styles panel to draw a line with it completely hangs the application. At the same time the rest of the system and applications continue to work just fine. But the Activity Monitor shows VectorStyler's CPU completely maxed out and fluctuating between 100-500%, while the memory sits around just 2-3 GB.

Am I doing something wrong myself? Should I change some settings to make VS handle Illustrator brushes much faster? Or is there a better way to load up and work with these brushes than simply opening the brushes file?

I don't think it's just this particular brush collection, since I've had similar problems with other 3rd party assets as well. For instance, Vector Savior halftone patterns pack by True Grit Texture Supply also completely locked up VectorStyler.

@JuurGroove I have to test the specific brush. Some brushes can be very complex and that might be the cause.

I opened a bug on this.

@JuurGroove The new build should contain improvements for brushes and patterns.

@VectorStyler Just tried it and yes the brush and pattern performance is much improved now. Thank you!

Though still not as smooth as in Illustrator as far as I can remember (can't check now), but at least VS does not completely hang when loading up these brushes. It also remains to be seen if they are actually usable in real world scenarios with lots of strokes and multiple brushes and patterns applied within a single document.

When ypu have time, test those scatter brushes against any of the recent Illustrator releases
