Replacing linked image caused file size to balloon

I clipped a low resolution image and later on replaced it with a high resolution image and the size of the file got extremely huge from 138kb to 22mb. I used the links panel replace icon which is located at the bottom of the panel to substitute the image.

I then proceeded to create another document and clipped the same high resolution image and the file size is smaller by a very wide margin (74.6kb).

Note that I used the same colour profile.

What could be causing this?

I have already sent the files to VectorStyler's email.

@William-Kansepa I tested this, and yes the files size increases.
The reason for this is that saving the file with the large image using the ZStandard compression does not compress very much (about 50% only). This is not suitable for photographic images.

Selecting JPEG in the document options for image mode improves this.

Thank you for your response, though with due respect, I have to admit that it's not the answer I was expecting.
Please note that both documents share the same size, profile and compression scheme. I have always used ZStandard compression without facing any challenges.

@William-Kansepa Sorry, I was doing a different test.

So in case of the VS files: in the larger document, the image is embedded into the document, while the smaller one only links to the image, and the image itself is not in the VS file.

If you check in Links panel, the image is still linked not embedded. To confirm that it's still linked, use an external image editor to edit and save the image file. The image will update in VS.
