pen tool with the guide on to preview where the path will go, the preview looks very extreme

Sometimes when using the pen tool with the guide on to preview where the path will go, the preview looks very extreme as shown in this video in the beginning 8 secs in and again near the end of the recording. Is this a bug in the predictive nature? Is there a way to reduce this in the preview? It almost never seems to be accurate when the next node is palced. thanks
