Tracking seems to reset before overall word tracking occurs

When I edit the tracking between two letters and then change the tracking of the entire word or words, (that include that specific individual tracking), it seems to reset the tracking to the default font settings rather than continue on from where the tracking settings currently are.
Here is a video of this happening.My expectation as the user would be that it would honor the existing tracking edits made prior to the overall tracking being done
