Oversized ghost lines appear often

I often get this strange oversize ghost stroke of the image I have selected. It's happened on multiple jobs recently. Sometimes it will resize the actual art itself to that size. I keep thinking it must be some property in the appearance panel related to scaling because I scaled the design up and down prior to this point.

i would guess a transformation case for here
The Object was transformed before scaled /
resized and the old transform shows up here
clipping object could also be involvedtry to convert those shapes in curves
and look if it disappears
