Reference Image Disappears When Editing Nodes

I have a reference source raster image locked at a low opacity on a lower layer. When I edit and modify nodes in the node editor tool, the source reference image disappears and reappears. I noticed the issue occurred after I turned on the GPU rendering feature. When I turned the feature back off, it stopped having that issue. It seems like they might be related, but I'm not sure.
