UI/UX - Shape Draw tools - return to Transform tool

When creating with a shape tool like Rectangle, the tools stays selected. (I assumed there was a pref to return it to the Transform arrow -V tool). After creating the shape, the Rect (or any shape tool) stays selected but the icon displayed is the pointer (V). Pressing V on the keyboard doesn't always seem to return me to the pointer.
