Just to add something possibly related, selecting the 'Random' geometry option makes the symbol set disappear. Choosing another geometry option brings them back.

Also sometimes the option to select a different geometry type or style is not available (not clickable).

For example:

1. Open Vectorstyler
2. New page
3. Draw a shape
4. Use the symbol spray brush to create some copies of the shape
5. Try clicking the geometry dropdown

I'm not sure why but eventually the option does work. I think changing the width of the Repeater panel might be something to do with it.
