The ability to "cut" an object

  • Feature: The ability to "cut" an object
Reason: Having the ability to cut an object at certain points for manipulation - like a scissor tool or something similar - would be key to object changing.

No sure if this answers it:

    • open the Path panel (Panels menu).
    • select the Node tool (second in the toolbox).
    • hover then click on any location on a curve or line segment.
    • a triangle shaped node is shown indicating shape direction.
    • press "plus" or the Insert new node button in the Path panel (second row, second button).
    • this adds a new node (but does not break the path).
    • select the new node (if not selected already), and "Break shape at selected.." button (5th in the 2nd row Path panel).

let me know if this is what you are looking for.

And forgot: there is a scissor tool in the toolbox.
Open the variable width tool (13th from the top) and more path editing tools will show, the last one is the scissor tool.

  • The knife at the end of the Variable Width tool bar didn't quite do what I was looking for. It just made new lines in an existing path. I'm going to try your other technique in a bit.

Now I see that was the Knife tool. You need a Scissor tool.
You also need to use the "Break Apart" command with the commands from the Path panel to separate a shape cut in parts, into multiple objects.

I'll think about a Scissor tool, if it is not difficult it could be done.
