I nailed down the exact scenario - I will send you the file used here:
Draw above issues

In my own words:
A) Draw above works fine if you select an object in the middle of a group for example
B) If you draw above the object you just created in step A, the object is created on top of the layer instead
C) I see this happening inside groups or outside
D) Movie should illustrate

Using draw above almost exclusively I see this happening all the time, of course.

But first of all take some time off today - it is spring and up North in Finland you must have had an even darker winter than me!

@Ingolf Got the file and the issue is replicated. Will get fixed in the next build.

We are now in the more light than dark season, but for some reason it still has to snow

Thats Finland! But still a luxury - even more light from the reflection!
