Option to show existing location of path in ghost form as you move a node
-
It would be helpful to me to have a way to move an existing node and not lose the exact angle I was working from in the process. In this example, I want to move the node down to overlap the path so I can trim it, but when I move the node, I lose track of the exact angle I had.
I could add a guideline, but it would be nice if there was a way the original could be a ghost and even have the current node snap to its former self temporarily.
EDIT: I realized I can add a node very close to where the node I want to move is located and protect the angle some that way. I know we've mentioned in the past adding the ability to give a visual indication when an edited node is in line with the rest of the path - could that be a solution for this?

@Boldline Would this issue be solved if the Direct Preview Mode is disabled?
Also the direct preview option can be disabled/enabled selectively for individual editors in Preferences -> Direct Preview.

This is how it functions in Illustrator - when you move a node, the path becomes highlighted and you can see where it was before. Ignore the first part of the video - I grabbed it with the transform tool by mistake instead of the node editing tool
Here is the video

That is how it will work in VS if the Direct Preview Mode is disabled.

@VectorStyler ok - got it. I see what you mean on that now - thank you

@VectorStyler In this topic, I mentioned a problem regarding the visibility of the selection.
After disabling Direct Preview, an analogic problem appears.
https://recordit.co/oL9wNFj1TzAs for sliding along an angle. Wouldn't it be possible to integrate that under the Shift key along with the vertical and horizontal snapping?
-
@VectorStyler on a related note to @encart 's video, the first time he tries to move that node, he grabs it and it does not respond at all - (the second time he is able to move it -albeit it went wonky on him from that point forward)
Focusing for a minute on the first issue - I see this happen often, especially using the stylus. Going back to an existing node, I often need to click and drag more than once for it to get recognized.

I could not replicate this (with the default settings).

Yes, this should work when holding Shift, if the angle snapping is not too small.

Does not work in my case. https://recordit.co/sP7fN2a4mI.

I was referring to the movement of control points around curves. For lines this is not working.

@VectorStyler
I was thinking about something simillar to mechanic implemented in Designer. https://recordit.co/b9YMvXGDUR

@encart yes! that would be an awesome addition! That is a better idea than I was thinking of and I would use it often

like that idea too
