Would it make more sense to have the brush default be the first option basic look? Let people change it from the basic default if they want another look?

@Boldline To paint with that solid mode, use the pen tool, instead of the brush tool. It is the same as painting with the brush and then selecting the first (solid) option.

I understand what you're saying. Yes the pen tool can have that look directly, but with the pen tool, it's plotting ahead of things node by node where the brush tool allows more for a free-form inking feel.
Sometimes the art requires the pen tool approach of plotting points and other times a more artistic approach is desired.
I'm not demanding any change necessarily, I just know for me, I'd prefer the standard as a default. Perhaps this is something that could be saved as a custom default workspace I can pull up? I don't know if VS has that yet, I have not explored that yet.

@Boldline I meant the pencil tool.
I think for the brush tool, the default should be a brush, otherwise it could be confusing.
But maybe the default should be changeable by the user.

It would make sense to me if the brush you get is the last one used. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but I can't seem to select a brush preset and draw with it? I can only change it when I drew the line, after which the other lines are also drawn with the same brush.

Another thing I noticed is that the context toolbar for the brush tool does not fit on my non-retina display, so some options are not accesible, especially the ability to change the brush style, which is quite annoying obviously.

@postdes Added the default brush issues to the backlog as a bug.
The context panel will be rearranged (a bit) to show the tool specific part first.

I agree on this one. The current default "as shipped" is probably fine.

@fde101 Using solid stroke as a default brush should work in the new build 201
