Object created with pen tool not selected after it is created

Happens:
- If you stop creating a path with ESC
- If you stop creating it with double click

@Ingolf Yes, it was like this before. Pressing Esc, or double clicking will complete the path, but this also means that it must deselect it. If a path is selected, then it can be continued with the Pen tool.

It is not how it works in other programs and it is not a good idea
It makes no sense. -
@Ingolf Not directly related, but possibly helpful:
If the first thing you want to do after finishing a path is editing its nodes, you can do it by holding down the Cmd key which switches to shape editing mode.
Then releasing it reverts to the Pen tool.
