Color curve editing problem

When trying to apply color curve editing to a layer by right clicking on it in the Layers panel, the image turns into a horizontally irregularly striped object, mainly consisting of black and grey stripes and some white.

@VectorWhiz MacOS or Windows? Does this happen with other effects also?
On Windows, this could be a GPU engine issue.
One thing is to try the different options in Preferences -> Performance -> Compute Engine.EDIT: a short recording of the screen to see what happens, can also help replicating this
