some AI files open off the artboard in VS

Sometimes when I open certain illustrator files in VS, the art is shifted off the artboard entirely. This does not happen with every AI file I open in VS however.
I notice this in reverse when I create a pdf in VS and then open it in Illustrator CS6, it puts the artwork off the artboard every time.
I am wondering if this is a CS6 issue because I've sent VS-made pdfs to illustrator CC clients and they opened them with no issues

@Boldline This is an issue in VS in the AI format import code.
I will try to improve it, but this one is a bit difficult.
