Path sketch fills in negative space

I am trying to master the path sketch tool. I noticed that it fills in negative space that I want left open. Here is a video of this happening to me - is there something I need to adjust?

Btw. i find vectorizing Bitmaps with the Path Sketch Tool a cool idea,
I have also tried it, especially when working with a pen on a graphics tablet
