Is there a setting to control how far back the history panel records? I've been noticing that sometimes the history panel only remembers a select number of steps and if I try to go back further, the steps are gone, even without first saving the file and going back into it later.

The file I am working with has all the checkmarks set for history and activity info checked.

The "History Limit" should do this.

Yes and mine is set to 128, yet you can see in the first picture, only 35 moves are recorded. What does the "change" mean in the history panel? because this appears to have been when the older history was removed.

@Boldline In this case the "Change" is just a group of changes.

This certainly has something to do with whatever is causing the "change" item being recorded in the history or right before it because it literally just happened right now. I should easily have 100+ moves in the history right now but they suddenly disappeared.

Should I send the file at this point to you?

@VectorStyler ok I think I solved the issue. When the history gets to the limit set, it erases all the steps prior. My expectation is that it would always keep an evolving list of the most recent steps up to the maximum set.

So for this example, if I had set the history limit to 10 steps, I would think that there would always be a revolving set of the 10 most recent steps saved in history.
Here is a small video showing what happens when I have a history limit set at 10.

I'm still confused because even with the limit set to 10, I count 13 steps recorded right before it erases the steps:

Yes this should be the case. But it also depends on the hierarchy of previous undo/redo changes.

I opened a bug on this to check if indeed the recent history is kept.
