The question that recently came up in posts:
      https://www.vectorstyler.com/forum/topic/4443/faster-way-to-do-this-simple-drag-drop
      https://www.vectorstyler.com/forum/topic/4444/copy-paste-not-working-intermittent
about how difficult it is to organize objects gave me another push to make one more plea for making it easier to distribute and organize objects between layers and sub-layers in closed state. This would probably make the previously mentioned posts/questions redundant.

Attached is a visual elaboration of verbal proposals I made in posts previously. It's a step by step explanation in PDF format, not very exciting if you're not in it but it has a point. Best viewed in browsing one-page view in Preview or similar.
Now I can rest my case

@Ayo This is great, I will add this to the features backlog.

Meanwhile, an other approach is already implemented (for the next build) that adds minimal changes to existing functionality. Let's see how this will work out first.

Just a comment regarding the FreeHand closed-layers method and documentation at the end of your thorough document:

I (still) use FreeHand daily, so I know where you're coming from. I too prefer the closed-layer approach instead of the endless atomized list of objects in layers.
FreeHand has the default behaviour of

          1. Select Object(s)
          2. Click a Layer Name to move objects to the Layer immediately.

That can lead to inadvertent layer change of objects, if all you want is to activate a layer, or change the layer order.

To remedy I usually change the appropriate setting and use:

          1. Select Object(s)
          2. Right-click a Layer Name and select "Move selection to this layer" from the context menu.

Thank you for bringing forward FreeHand and it's qualities.. ☺

Hi Lars, my suggestion was to connect a modifier trashold to it so that accidents occur less often. With a modifier you are more aware of a task. I think your suggestion is also a good solution.

I used to use Freehand all the time until the Adobe takeover. I wish I could still open it and use it to experiment with today. It was certainly ahead of its time and one of the many negatives of Adobe purchasing macromedia was the way they shut it down completely.
@larsherold Please keep sharing any cool ideas from Freehand that help your workflow so VS can carry on that standard
