Reference artboard, symbol...

Just a few tests: I define the ‘reference’ artboard as 'symbol' and draw a shape.
First problem: if I place this symbol (from the panel) on an artboard and copy it several times, the changes are not reflected. It seems to me that this used to work.
Second problem: with two column views, the symbol object is no longer visible once it is selected; Ctrl-R does the trick, but you have to repeat it every time, which is tedious.

I tried to replicate but could not. That is why the file is needed, could be some option, something I missed.
