I would also very much like to +1 this, if this still isn't feasible, the ability to create global swatches by default. It's absolutely critical to the design of the information and organization of a file. Especially for anything productive. Found this thread because I'm trying to make a set of globals from a document and finding that I have to select each and "set Global mode" manually, which is painful. Checking the unofficial PDF manual, I didn't see an easier method than this, sadly.

@VectorStyler This behavior of yours should take into account the users who use it for the first time. For long-term users, it will feel a bit redundant. I hope it can disappear in the future.

@Boldline The problem here is the lack of modifier keys for this feature. The Pen tool already uses all modifier keys.

@Boldline Can be replicate here also. Seems to be a bug, somehow the block eraser mode also selects the objects.

@debraspicher I added this to the backlog. The arrow has to stay to indicate that there is a content (even if empty) inside the object. This is not just for layers, but if you drag an object into an other and then drag it out, it will result in an object with an empty content (Group item will show up in the Appearance panel).

@Boldline The "Separate Offset" refers to the object selection, do we apply the offset separately on each or on the whole as a single object. The "Combining" option refers how to treat the one object (and the combined object if separate is not checked). Not sure yet if these two could be merged into a single option.
